About Paavo Hanninen
Paavo Hanninen is a writer/director based in Los Angeles after having lived in New Orleans for the past decade. He was born and raised in Alabama and received his MFA in film from UT-Austin. As a writer/director, his short films have played at festivals including Austin Film Festival, Sun Valley, Sarasota, Maryland, and many others. His work has been featured on The New Yorker, Short of the Week, and Criterion Channel among other places. He is currently in development on his debut feature film Remote View with producer Houston King. In addition, his feature screenplay Deep Fake was a finalist for the 2024 Film Independent Screenwriters' Lab and the Story Incubator Writers' Lab. As a commercial director, Paavo is repped by Cortez Brothers. Outside of his work as a writer/director, Paavo also has worked for many years as a director of photography, particularly of documentaries. His latest work was as DoP of the doc feature Roleplay (director Katie Matthews), which premiered at SXSW 2024 and recently played at American Film Festival in Poland and Doc NYC.
